In the coming weeks, the G7 will meet to discuss the energy crisis. This was announced by French President Emmanuel Macron. At the meeting, the Group of Seven member states will discuss cooperation and supplies in the context of the crisis caused by the conflict in the Middle East.
“The goal is to strengthen cooperation and avoid unnecessary tensions between the seven countries and with our key partners, as well as to consider using strategic reserves or lifting restrictions, as we did a few months ago,” Macron said.
The French president added that Paris has been negotiating with various countries over the past few months to diversify its energy supplies. He mentioned contacts with heads of state in the Middle East and India, the construction of a gas pipeline from Iraq to the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea and an upcoming meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Fuel prices in European countries began to rise, including due to the aggravation of the conflict between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia. The Ansar Allah group hit the East-West oil pipeline, which allows oil to be transported from Saudi Arabia bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. On September 14, the average price of a liter of gasoline in France reached €2.11, an absolute record since 1985. In Germany, the price of diesel on the morning of September 17 also exceeded the historical maximum of €2.45 per liter.
