FAO: Addressing hunger by 2030 is impossible
Getting rid of hunger by 2030 is unrealistic, said the head of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for relations with Russia Oleg Kobyakov. The UN General Assembly set this goal in 2015 as one of the goals of sustainable development.
Getting rid of hunger by 2030 is unrealistic, said the head of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for relations with Russia Oleg Kobyakov. The UN General Assembly set this goal in 2015 as one of the goals of sustainable development.
If we remember that by the decision of the UN General Assembly, humanity set the task of getting rid of hunger as a phenomenon by 2030, then, obviously, this task is now impossible. At least at the pace that we are going now, it is unattainable, Oleg Kobyakov told RIA Novosti.
At the same time, the scale of global hunger is declining, Kobyakov noted. He added that if current dynamics are maintained, about 512 million people in the world will go hungry by 2030. In 2015, the UN estimated the number of hungry people worldwide at 690 million, most of them in Asia.
