The law on sanctions against Russia signed by US President Donald Trump cannot have a positive impact on bilateral relations and the prospects for a Ukrainian settlement. This was stated by press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“Definitely, this cannot have a positive impact,” Peskov said in response to a question from RIA Novosti.

Today, Mr. Trump signed the law on “hellish sanctions” against Russia. The document gives the US president the right to impose duties of up to 100% on the goods of the five largest buyers of Russian energy carriers, as well as duties of up to 5000% on goods from Russia. The law also gives the right to directly impose sanctions against Russian officials, banks and ships of the “shadow fleet”.
