The head of Rossotrudnichestvo Igor Chaika responded to the call of the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sibighi to close the “Russian houses”. According to him, the educated majority around the world will not like the closure of the centers.
“Sibiga’s call for the closure of Russian Houses around the world involuntarily brings to mind the character of domestic literature, who became an example of destructive idiocy – Poligraf Poligrafovich Sharikov from the Heart of a Dog by Mikhail Bulgakov,” Igor Chaika said in a statement.
According to Chaika, the Russian Houses will remain centers of dialogue for millions of people. He added that recently Rossotrudnichestvo received 11 requests for the opening of new “Russian houses”. “We will continue the modernization of Russian houses abroad, which will become an actual showcase of modern Russia,” said Yuri Chaika.
“Russian Houses” is the unofficial name of foreign representative offices of Rossotrudnichestvo. The purpose of the agency is to popularize the Russian language and culture in the world. On September 19, Yuriy Sibiga said that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called on governments of different countries to limit the activities of Russian Houses. According to him, Russia “is waging a global battle for the consciousness of the people,” and “Russian houses” serve as “tools of disinformation, destabilization and espionage.”.
