US President Donald Trump has announced a change in plans to build a 76-meter triumphal arch in Washington. As Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social, “at the request of the U.S. military and for reasons of national security,” he agreed to transform this “majestic” arch into a “high-end military complex.”.

According to President Trump, the new plans include the possibility of placing a large number of military drones in this complex, equipping positions for snipers on the roof and adjacent area, as well as storing large stocks of ammunition. Mr. Trump also added that such facilities will not be anywhere in the world. However, he did not give details about the construction timeline or other details about the arsenal.

Donald Trump announced plans to build a triumphal arch in February 2026. In May, the project was approved with some changes. The height of the structure will be 76 meters (about 250 feet, symbolizing the 250th anniversary of US independence). The arch will be in the middle of a car interchange connecting Arlington National Cemetery and the Lincoln Memorial on the other bank of the Potomac River. Construction is expected to begin as early as September or November and will last two to three years. The project drew criticism from experts, who pointed out that the giant structure will not only close the view of several attractions, but will also interfere with the Reagan airport.
