Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and French President Emmanuel Macron have agreed to cooperate on space infrastructure and business. They held talks on the bordering French overseas territory of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, which borders Canada.
Carney said he and the French president will instruct their space agencies and defense ministries to develop and share common infrastructure, including spacecraft launch systems and ground reception facilities. The Regional Joint Commission for Cooperation between Atlantic Canada and Saint-Pierre and Miquelon will be tasked with expanding work "on economic growth, energy transition and climate resilience." The Chambers of Commerce of the two countries will sign an agreement in the coming weeks.
The office of Emmanuel Macron said that Mark Carney is the first Prime Minister of Canada, who made an official visit to Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. Macron is the first French president to visit the site in more than a decade.
