Moldova is experiencing an energy crisis due to rising gas and electricity prices. In 2025, Ukraine stopped the transit of Russian gas through its territory, which led to a reduction in production at the Moldavian GRES in Transnistria.
The country has completely switched to purchases from European suppliers, but transmission lines periodically do not withstand the load. In August, the gas tariff increased by an average of 41%, to 20.3 lei per cubic meter, which caused severe criticism of the opposition.
