French President Emmanuel Macron appealed to the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen with a request to temporarily relax a number of European Union requirements for fuel quality. This was reported by BFMTV with reference to the letter of the French leader.
In his address, Mr. Macron proposed to reduce the stringent European standards for the quality of motor fuel for a short time and as an exception. In his opinion, such a measure will allow refineries to increase production and provide the domestic market faster. The President also called for easing restrictions on the content of biofuels in the fuel mixture, which can help increase the supply of diesel fuel in Europe.
Macron also called for delaying the introduction of new EU rules on fossil fuel imports. He believes that this will strengthen production capacity in European countries and quickly increase the available volumes of fuel.
