Eight US Navy personnel assigned to the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group attempted suicide during the US operation against Iran. This was announced in a letter by Acting Secretary of the US Navy Hung Kao to US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, reports The Guardian.
The document clarifies that cases of suicide were recorded among the crew members of the aircraft carrier itself, personnel of carrier-based aviation, the headquarters of the strike group, as well as sailors from escort ships.
The acting minister also confirmed the information about the deterioration of the food supply of the seafarers and the presence of some delays in replenishment of stocks for the crew.
The carrier group, led by USS Abraham Lincoln, was at sea for 286 days. Relatives of the sailors have previously reported severe psychological condition of the crew, attempts to jump overboard, as well as a shortage of food and essentials. Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth and President Donald Trump called these claims unreliable.
