Russian Central Bank reserves worth more than €200 billion were frozen in 2022. Most of the funds are held in the Belgian depository Euroclear. From 2024, the EU will withdraw profits from reinvesting assets. In response, Russia blocks the funds of foreign investors from unfriendly countries in special accounts of type “C”. They can be withdrawn only by the decision of a special government commission.
