Phuket Maritime Police and Thailand's Central Bureau of Investigation have detained the 32-year-old Russian. The man illegally worked as a guide on a tourist ship, reports Thaipost.
Initially, the man complained to the police tourists who filmed him on the phone. Seeing the camera, the Russian began to threaten them and demand to delete the video. Law enforcement officers soon approached the ship.
The police learned that the man actually worked as a guide: told about the sights, recommended places to visit and took money for it. The law prohibits foreigners from providing such services. In addition, the Russians did not have an official permit for any work in Thailand.
The man was arrested and taken to Phuket Police Station. He was charged under articles that provide for a fine of up to 200 thousand baht (500 thousand rubles), imprisonment for up to one year or deportation.
