Estonia has begun redeploying military units closer to the border with Russia as part of a transition to an active defense strategy. This is reported by the Financial Times, citing sources.
According to the publication, the forces of one brigade are planned to be transferred from the military base in Tapa in Jõhvi, located about 50 km from the border. A military base is also being built in Narva, designed to house about 1,000 troops. It is alleged that the military is moving to the eastern border, including long-range weapons.
At the same time, the heads of the military and intelligence agencies of Estonia do not believe that Russia is seeking a full-scale conflict with NATO in the near future.
Last week, Finnish President Alexander Stubb urged European countries not to exaggerate fears of a direct clash between Russia and NATO. According to him, Helsinki does not see a real threat of attack from Moscow.
