The authorities of Phuket introduced enhanced security due to the arrival of about 5,000 US Navy personnel on vacation. An operational headquarters was deployed on the island for round-the-clock monitoring. It included members of the Navy, tourist and immigration police, as well as representatives of local authorities.
Prachachat and Thaipost reported, citing local police, that 150 officers were involved in law enforcement. In addition, the island has implemented a video surveillance system “Phuket Eye”, which uses artificial intelligence technologies. It should help prevent incidents that could compromise the safety of residents and tourists.
Such measures will be in effect until October 9. On the same day, American servicemen from the aircraft carrier USS George HW Bush and the escort ship USS Mason plan to complete the mooring in Phuket.
The aircraft carrier USS George H. W. Bush and the destroyer USS Delbert D. Black arrived on a planned visit to Phuket on October 4. For the crew, this was the first port call after more than six months of continuous navigation. Recently, the group participated in Operation Epic Fury and the U.S. naval blockade in the Middle East. The U.S. Embassy in Thailand noted that during the trip, the servicemen showed “exceptional discipline, resilience and cohesion.” The call to the port will give sailors the opportunity to get acquainted with the culture of Thailand and get to know the locals better.
