“Both sides expressed satisfaction with the high level of Russian-Tajikistan relations of strategic partnership and alliance, and confirmed their commitment to their further active development,” the Kremlin said in a press release.
In a congratulatory telegram, Vladimir Putin said that the activity of Emomali Rahmon as President of Tajikistan "is marked by significant successes of the country in the economic and social fields." The Russian president noted that he counts on the continuation of "constructive, friendly communication and fruitful joint work.".
The presidents of Russia and Tajikistan met in early September at the SCO summit in Bishkek. They discussed security issues, including the situation in Afghanistan, as well as strategic partnerships. According to Vladimir Putin, the trade turnover between Russia and Tajikistan increased by 25.1% in 2025, and by another 25% in the first half of 2026.
