On October 4, Brazil held a general election with 12 candidates. In the second round, incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and right-wing populist Flavio Bolsonaro, son of Jair Bolsonaro, who was president of Brazil from 2019-2023, took part. After processing almost 99% of the ballots, Mr Bolsonaro scored 47.28%, his rival 44.87%. The second round will take place on October 25.
