Mr. Tokayev noted that after the incident, personnel decisions were made in the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan. “The officials responsible for the deaths of military personnel must be held accountable as prescribed by law. This issue is under the personal control of the President. On the facts of criminal negligence of the command staff, a pre-trial investigation is continuing, the presidential press service said.
In the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, on September 22, the exercises “Defense of the Caspian — 2026” began. More than 500 soldiers participated. On September 24, during military exercises due to a sharp deterioration in the weather, 17 servicemen of Kazakhstan were carried into the sea. Three were saved. After the incident, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev replaced the head of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan. He became Aidos Myrzakhmetov, who previously held the post of commander of the Special Operations Forces of the armed forces.
