Russia will respond proportionately to the new sanctions of Japan, said the representative of the Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova. She said countermeasures would target areas of interest to Tokyo.
Maria Zakharova called “clumsy” attempts by Japan to explain the new restrictions contribution to the peaceful settlement in Ukraine. “We see this as yet another confirmation of the lack of independence of the foreign policy pursued by Tokyo, dictated not by national interests, but by the reckless solidarity of Japan with the so-called like-minded people in the Euro-Atlantic,” she said.
Japan imposed new sanctions on Russia on October 2. The restrictions affected 33 Russian legal entities and nine individuals. Under the sanctions were the deputy head of Rostec Dmitry Lelikov and the general director of VNIIR-Progress Vladislav Kostin. In addition, the Japanese side introduced restrictive measures against 35 ships of the “shadow fleet”.
