Thus, the Ministry commented on the statement of the Prosecutor General of the UAE, which qualified the incident on board as an attempted terrorist attack by the co-pilot of the plane Hamam al-Hammami. According to Emirati authorities, he attacked the captain, tried to intercept control and allegedly provoked a plane crash. He was defused and detained after landing.
“Moscow notes with satisfaction that thanks to the courage of the first pilot and passengers of the liner, the tragedy was prevented,” the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry said. The agency expressed hope for an objective investigation.
The attacker has Omani citizenship. He has been working at Flydubai for less than a year. From a previous company where he worked for several years, he was fired because of his extremist views. Hamam al-Hammami himself said that he was going to fly the plane to the Israeli airport Ben-Gurion.
