200-pound book with Salvador Dali cover stolen in France

The book was created by gallerist Joseph Fore in a single copy from 1958 to 1961 based on the book of Revelation of John the Theologian, also known as the Apocalypse. Illustrations to the text were written by several painters, including Bernard Buffet, Leonor Fini, Leonard Fujita, Piem-Yves Tremois and Osip Zadkin. The cover is made of bronze, its weight reaches 150 kg. Seven other authors have commented on some passages of the Apocalypse. Among such authors are Jean Cocteau, Daniel-Rops, Jean Gitton and others. In addition, 25 craft workshops worked on the creation of the book.
From 1961 to 1972, Apocalypse was presented in more than 140 exhibitions around the world. Before entering the collection of Christian Carutzos in the French Museum, the book was exhibited in Switzerland and Japan. Mr. Karutzos bought it in 2003. He did not disclose the exact purchase price. According to the collector, at the time of creation, the book cost more than €304,000.
The prosecutor's office opened an investigation. The case was referred to the Clermont-Ferrand Criminal Investigations Division.
