At least 190 schoolchildren were injured during high school demonstrations in France. This was announced by the Minister of Education Edouard Geffrey on the air of the BFMTV channel.
According to the head of the department, most students were injured accidentally, falling from street structures or as a result of the use of pyrotechnics by the demonstrators themselves. Mr Geffrey also referred to a case in Lance where a teenager suffered a severe hand wound by picking up a police grenade.
Since mid-September, 78 teachers and school staff have been injured. 24 schools were burned or destroyed. Due to the ongoing unrest on October 5, 400-500 lyceums were completely or partially closed.
The protests began on September 21 at the Lyceum of Saint-Exupery in the Paris suburb of Creteil. High school students express dissatisfaction with the problems of the French education system - the shortage of teachers, overcrowding of classrooms and the state of educational institutions.
