The President of the United States Donald trump signed a decree on the abolition of restrictions on the use of cheaper “red” diesel. The decree is aimed at reducing record fuel prices.
According to the White House newsletter, the document temporarily allows the use of off-road marked diesel on highways and instructs the US Treasury to postpone the payment of the federal excise tax (24.4 cents per gallon) until the end of the year without charging fines and interest.
According to CNN, Mr. Trump announced the decision at a campaign event in Nebraska. According to him, the measure will reduce the cost of all goods, including food.
Marked diesel is chemically identical to conventional, but is painted red and is traditionally tax-free, as it is intended exclusively for agricultural and construction equipment.
