“This project, supported by U.S. government investments, will strengthen Moldova’s energy security and independence, expand opportunities for U.S. companies and technologies in various sectors, and deepen the economic partnership between the U.S. and the Republic of Moldova,” the U.S. Embassy in Moldova said in a Facebook post.
At the moment, a working group has been established in Chisinau, which will allow us to proceed to the next stage of the project. The Moldovan Ministry of Energy and the US Embassy are involved in its development, as well as the Moldovan company Moldelectrica and the American company Black & Veatch.
The Strashena-Gutinas line under 400 kV voltage will be the third uniting the two states. Its length will be 190 km, more than 70 km of them will pass through the territory of Moldova, another 120 km through the territory of Romania.
Two other lines that connected Romania and Moldova, Balti-Suceava and Vulcanesti-Chisinau, had previously been shut down for various reasons. The latter in March 2026 was temporarily left without tension after attacks on electricity facilities in Ukraine.
