Moldova plans to join EU sanctions on Russian fertilizers. This was stated by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic Eugene Osmokescu on the air of Radio Moldova.
“We are discussing the issue of full accession to the sanctions imposed by the European Union against Belarus and Russia, we have already supported them, leaving fertilizer as exceptions,” Osmokescu said. He added that before adopting sanctions on fertilizers, Moldova should analyze the consequences of such a decision and find new suppliers at competitive prices.
After the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine in 2022, Moldova did not immediately join the EU’s anti-Russian sanctions. The authorities of the republic explained this position by the weak economy of the country. In 2024, Moldovan Foreign Minister Mahai Popshoi said that Moldova supported about 80% of sanctions against Russia, including restrictions against individuals.
