At least 20 migrants tried to enter Latvia from Belarus, according to the National Armed Forces of Latvia (NBS). The group was accompanied by masked men with weapons. The NBS reported that armed men threatened Latvian servicemen.
The incident occurred on October 5. Soldiers of the Latvian Armed Forces stopped an attempt to illegally cross the border, the NBS press service said. A few hours later, masked men again crossed the Belarusian-Latvian border, stole security cameras and damaged an electric locker. Then the unknown returned to the territory of Belarus, added NBS.
Unlike many previous cases, this time the provocation was particularly demonstrative and aggressive. Belarus should understand that such cases can lead to more serious consequences for Belarus itself, Latvian Interior Minister Janis Dombrava wrote on X.
The Belarusian authorities did not comment on the statements of the Latvian side.
