According to the lawyers, Pike can talk and continues to receive the necessary medical care in the hospital. She is the only known person in the United States to survive a full cycle of execution.
As CNN notes, the performers had difficulty installing intravenous catheters because of the characteristics of the veins of the convict, which she warned earlier. Governor Bill Lee has suspended the next scheduled execution and ordered an independent investigation. He also announced the resignation of the Tennessee prison chief.
Pike's defense calls for the death sentence to be commuted to life imprisonment without parole.
