Russia is ready to mediate in the settlement of the conflict between the government of Yemen and the movement “Ansar Allah” (Houthi), if the parties are interested in this. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov.
“We tell everyone that we are not ready to land and impose landings. But if you are interested in our mediation role, such a role will be played by us with absolutely pure thoughts as an honest broker, the deputy minister told RIA Novosti. He noted that so far the parties have not expressed specific proposals.
Fighting between Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement and Saudi-backed government forces resumed in mid-July. On October 5, Yemeni President Rashad al-Alimi announced the start of a military operation to regain control of the Houthi-controlled Red Sea coast and the capital Sanaa.
