The Dutch authorities plan to attract more than 150,000 people to the civilian reserve for emergency assistance. This is reported by the TV channel RTL.
The proposal was supported by the parliament and the government. According to the authors of the bill from the CDA party, the number of reservists should grow to 150 thousand people by 2030. About 20,000 of them will have technical, logistics and security skills.
The Civic Reserve is designed to support key state functions in the first 72 hours of a major crisis, when the police, army and emergency services are unable to cope with the load.
Reservists will be engaged to protect infrastructure against threats of sabotage, eliminate accidents at power plants and pumping stations, as well as to ensure the transportation and protection of important facilities, including dams. The formation of a civilian reserve will begin next year.
