Peskov: EU obsessed with plans for militarization

The idea of militarization of Europe, which is based on confrontation with Russia, will not lead to anything good, said the press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov. European countries are “obsessed” with plans for militarization.
Mr. Peskov was asked during the briefing to comment on the tests conducted by France of a new nuclear missile. The Kremlin saw it as a message. Europe is obsessed with plans to militarize the EU, that is, the economic bloc, turning it into a military-political bloc. That is, there will now be three dimensions, as far as we understand – economic and military-political, – said the representative of the President.
The press Secretary is convinced that the EU countries “build their identity in the field of defense and security on the basis of confrontation” with Russia. “This is a dead end path, as history shows, it does not lead to anything good,” Dmitry Peskov added.
In March, French President Emmanuel Macron announced a move to “advanced nuclear deterrence.” On October 6, the French armed forces conducted the first test launch of a new ballistic missile M51.3, capable of carrying a nuclear charge. The launch was made without a warhead from the submarine Le Vigilant. France is one of only two European countries to have nuclear weapons (the other being Britain).
