In the opinion of the overwhelming majority of Germans, the tenure of Friedrich Merz as Chancellor is unfortunate. Last week, Der Spiegel magazine conducted a survey of 2002 people.
67% of respondents believe that Merz’s activities have failed, 58% believe that he should resign, and in East Germany this figure reaches 80%. As Der Spiegel notes, “the results of the study are representative of the German electorate and deal another blow to the positions of the Chancellor, who is already in a difficult position.”.
The researchers emphasize that the negative attitude towards the head of government is observed by supporters of both left and right views. According to Der Spiegel, Chancellor Merz alienated many voters because he did not fulfill many election promises, and “instead of instilling in people optimism and faith in change, the Chancellor often reproached the people and reacted to criticism resentfully.”.
Why the German Chancellor refused to resign after a new failure of his party in the elections – in the material “CDU was not allowed on the threshold”.
