Russian President Vladimir Putin has fully accepted the proposal of his American counterpart Donald Trump, made during a meeting in Anchorage in August 2025, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. According to the head of the foreign Ministry, the United States eventually abandoned initiatives under pressure from the European Union.
“It is not our fault that the Americans could not resist the unprecedented and shameless pressure of Europe, which proudly later said that it buried Anchorage,” Lavrov said at a press conference after a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers.
Lavrov said that the summit was primarily about Ukraine’s refusal to join NATO and the preservation of new territories for Russia, as well as compromises from Moscow. There were no agreements at the meeting. The Kremlin has repeatedly spoken about its readiness to continue working on Washington’s proposals. In the summer of 2026, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Ukraine did not agree to such conditions, so the parties should seek new approaches to a peaceful settlement.
