Saudi Arabia is conducting its own investigation into the incident on the Flydubai plane, on board which the co-pilot attacked the commander of the aircraft. Experts are studying the possible consequences for the safety of flights in parallel with the criminal investigation conducted by the UAE. This is reported by Reuters with reference to sources.
Under international rules, the UAE will automatically be involved in the investigation, as the plane is registered in that country and the airline is based in Dubai. Earlier, the UAE Prosecutor General’s Office qualified the incident on board as an attempted terrorist attack. Ofer Vaknin, director of the Israel Air Accident Investigation Authority, said he was waiting for an invitation from Saudi Arabia to take part in the investigation.
Flydubai’s Boeing 737 was heading from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30. There were 174 passengers on board, 27 of them children. The plane gave an alarm and made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia. The crew announced an attempt to seize the ship. According to Israeli authorities, the co-pilot of the plane attacked the captain with a knife and directed the plane toward the ground. According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the attacker managed to neutralize one of the passengers.
