Bulgaria will invite Romania and Turkey to consultations on the security of ships in the Black Sea. This was stated by the President of Bulgaria Iliana Yotova after a meeting of the National Security Council of the country. The meeting was convened after a drone strike on two ships in the economic zone of Bulgaria in the Black Sea, reports Reuters.
“The National Security Advisory Council unequivocally condemns the strikes on merchant ships in the Black Sea as a gross violation of international law of the sea and insists on an immediate investigation to identify those responsible,” Yotova said.
On September 6, Bulgarian authorities reported a drone attack on two ships in their maritime economic zone. Alfa Watan merchant ships under the flag of Togo and Able under the flag of Palau were attacked. One sank, the crew of the second evacuated. The day before, on October 5, the Turkish cargo ship Royand Mammadov sank off the coast of Romania in the Black Sea after a fire. Two people were killed and 11 others were injured.
