Archaeologists are closer to solving the mystery of Nefertiti: under the tomb of Tutankhamun found new anomalies

The team of archaeologists received new data indicating the possible presence of unexplored cavities in the walls of Tutankhamun’s tomb. It is there, according to one of the hypotheses, can rest the legendary Queen Nefertiti, reports the correspondent of the agency “Minsk-Novosti”.

For the first time in the history of the study of the 3400-year-old tomb in the Valley of the Kings, experts used the method of gravimetric surveying. Special attention of scientists attracted the alleged passage width of about two meters, which probably departs from the burial chamber of the pharaoh. Geophysicist George Ballard does not rule out that this corridor is littered with debris, which may have left it undetected in previous scans.

According to Bild, the most intriguing result was the so-called anomaly 7. The instruments recorded a zone with a low density, inside which an object of almost square shape with higher densities is visible. Ballard admits that this may be a chamber where funerary artifacts are stored.

However, the researchers urge not to rush to conclusions: currently there is no confirmation of the existence of hidden rooms. The data obtained are at the limit of the possibilities of the method used, so further checks are required.

These results again brought attention to the theory of British Egyptologist Nicholas Reeves. Back in 2015, he suggested that the tomb of Tutankhamun hides a larger complex associated with Nefertiti. Since the burial site of the queen herself has not yet been found, the new measurements may be the key to solving the mystery.
