The administration of US President Donald Trump in 2026 was forced to return customs duties in the amount of about $ 180 billion. This information was voiced by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, writes sb.by.

According to TASS, at an event in Pennsylvania, he said:

- We have reduced the deficit relative to GDP for 2025, but this year I have had to recover $180 billion in tariff revenue.

Bessent added that this will never happen again :

- I believe we will continue to reduce deficits and debt.

The US Supreme Court on February 20 recognized the introduction of import duties by the current US President Donald Trump against other countries under the pretext of the law on economic measures in case of international emergencies as an excess of powers. In April, the US Customs and Border Protection announced the beginning of the return of customs duties, the collection of which was recognized by the court as illegal. Bessent: the United States is reviewing the tariff system to raise duties to the previous level
