According to Reuters, the US Southern Command reported that it carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a high-speed vessel en route to drug trafficking. It cited confirmed intelligence and said four of the dead were drug terrorists.
The administration of US President Donald Trump claims that the ships, which were struck since September 2025, were carrying drugs. More than 220 people were killed in United States strikes in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific.
Experts and human rights activists in the United States and abroad have questioned the legitimacy of these attacks. Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and independent UN experts have called them extrajudicial executions.
