Two Gomel residents rented cars in Russia and sold in Belarus – the Prosecutor’s office revealed the details

Gomel and his friend sold two rented cars in Russia, driving them to his city. This was reported in the information service of the Prosecutor’s office of the Gomel region, writes sb.by.

Two residents of Gomel became defendants in a criminal case of fraud on a large scale. It was established that one of them was working in Russia in the spring of 2025.

- He persuaded his friend to sign a rental agreement for a Skoda car. For this purpose, a false driving license was used. The owner of the car received the money for a week of rent. A little later, according to the indicators of the GPS tracker installed in the car, she realized that the car had left Russia. At the same time, the tenant did not get in touch, the regional prosecutor’s office said.

The owner of the car came to Belarus and appealed to the police. At this time, the attacker returned in a rented car to Gomel, dismantled the GPS tracker installed in it and sold the car for $ 4,000. The damage caused to the victim exceeded 29.5 thousand.

After some time, the comrades again implemented a criminal scheme using a false passport and driver's license. This time in Russia signed a lease agreement for Toyota. We drove it to Gomel and sold it. Illegal actions of the victim caused damage to almost 30 thousand.

The speed of law enforcement officers helped to return the cars to both victims. In favor of the victim recovered 1 thousand as material compensation for moral damage.

The court of the Central district of Gomel took into account the evidence presented by the state prosecutor and ruled a conviction. On the basis of Part 3 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code, both defendants were sentenced to imprisonment with serving in a correctional colony under enhanced regime: one for a period of 2 years 6 months with a fine of 40 basic values (ом 1,800), the other for a period of 2 years with a fine of 30 basic values (ом 1.35 thousand). In addition, one accused on the basis of article 107 of the criminal code, the court ordered compulsory treatment for chronic alcoholism at the place of serving his sentence.

The sentence has not entered into legal force, can be appealed and appealed.
