Canadian authorities have been preparing for the possibility of a U.S. military invasion for the past year, although they considered it unlikely. This information was voiced by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, writes sb.by.

According to TASS, in an interview with The New York Times published on September 23, when asked whether officials in Ottawa considered such an opportunity in connection with statements by US President Donald Trump about the desire to make Canada the 51st US state, Carney pointed out:
- I think people in positions like this have an obligation to assess extremely unlikely extreme risks. It's just risk tracking. This is not a baseline scenario, but it would be irresponsible not to prepare.
The Canadian premier added that his country wants to reduce its reliance on US-based Starlink satellite communications militarily:
- As for Starlink, we will certainly diversify.
He explained that Canada is aimed at cooperation in this area with European countries and the Republic of Korea.
The publication says that Ottawa is reviewing plans to purchase 88 American F-35 fighters and allows the possibility of ordering alternative vehicles from European manufacturers. According to Carney, he believes that the situation in which the global financial system is highly dependent on the US dollar is unstable.
He also said he appreciated his relationship with Trump:
- From my point of view, we have a good relationship in the sense that we can call each other and discuss various issues.
Trump has repeatedly called on Canada to join the United States, and Carney called it governor. In turn, the Canadian authorities rejected the possibility of joining the United States. Trump says Canada should become US state to preserve auto industry
