On Tuesday, October 13, Apple began to demonstrate a new line of products for the smart home, including a device similar to the iPad, dubbed HomeView and designed for hanging on walls or countertops, which will feature a virtual assistant Siri.
According to Reuters, the HomeView device will sell for $299 and go on sale next month. It will feature a 7-inch screen and facial recognition feature, and will help users manage doorbells, thermostats and smart locks.
Apple is rolling out these products in an effort to counter competition from rivals including traditional rivals like Amazon, a company that has invested heavily in its Echo speakers and doorbells and last week launched premium tablets as well as new artificial intelligence startups like OpenAI.
At the presentation, Apple also presented an updated smart speaker HomePod and Apple TV devices, as well as a number of accessories, including doorbells, cameras and thermostats manufactured by LG and Schneider Electric and developed with the participation of Apple.
The company also announced a number of devices from other manufacturers, such as cameras and smart doorbells, designed to integrate into its home ecosystem.
