The New York Times, citing unnamed U.S. administration officials, said three aircraft carriers would soon be deployed to the Middle East. The Pentagon is also developing plans to strike sites for storage of missiles and drones, other military and energy facilities.
In recent months, the Pentagon and Trump’s national security team have presented five proposals to the U.S. leader for large-scale military action against Iran or the rebel Yemeni Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement. The President of the United States on all proposals refused, said the publication.
In addition, many of Trump’s inner circle believe that fighting against the Islamic Republic will not affect Tehran’s plans, some of them believe that the campaign to exert economic pressure on Iran is bearing fruit and it only needs a little more time to convince Tehran to make significant concessions.
