In September, in Danshan County of Suzhou, the Chinese province of Anhui, the harvest of famous pears of the suli variety is harvested. The volume of the entire production chain of the industry here exceeded 13 billion yuan ($1.94 billion), sb.by reports.

According to People’s Daily, Danshan has the world’s largest continuous array of pear gardens with an area of more than 400 thousand mu (over 26.67 thousand hectares). More than 60 thousand pear trees over 100 years old grow here. The annual harvest reaches 1.154 million tons, and the volume of the entire production chain exceeds 13 billion yuan.
The development of the pear industry in Danshan has long been not limited to agriculture. The centers of culture of pear suli, alleys for admiring flowering, the museum of pear suli and guest houses located among the gardens have formed a complex of tourist facilities related to pear themes. In 2025, revenues from such tourism reached 5.07 billion yuan ($756.83 million), and local gardens were visited by 8.71 million tourists.

At the same time, the channels for promoting local products are expanding. The county strictly controls the use of geographical indications and increases the proportion of products certified as “green” and organic. Thanks to participation in agricultural exhibitions and the work of the Danshan branded agricultural pavilion in Hangzhou (China’s Zhejiang province), fresh pears and their processed products are supplied to more than 20 countries and regions of the world.
