The U.S. Tsunami Warning System has issued a warning of a potential tsunami threat to Costa Rica, El Salvador, Peru, Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Nicaragua, Colombia and Ecuador following a 7.6 magnitude earthquake in Panama.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, an earthquake of magnitude 7.6 occurred in Panama. The epicenter was located 207 km southwest of the capital of Panama. The hearth lay at a depth of 10 km.
In the capital of Panama evacuated people from high-rise buildings. The Ministry of Education of Panama suspended the second shift classes on October 9 in all educational institutions of the country.
Tremors caused alarm among the population and were strongly felt in various parts of the country, including the capital. To date, the authorities have not officially confirmed information about material damage, wounded or dead, inspections are underway.
