The demographic issue is acute for Europe, as empty territory cannot be protected from illegal migration. This was stated by Prime Minister of Slovenia Janez Janša, reports sb.by.
According to TASS, the Slovenian Prime Minister, following the results of the summit of the Mediterranean countries of the EU (MED9), which was held on Wednesday in Split, stressed:
- Every day we lose a small community. History teaches us that we can build walls on borders. Whatever the height, if the area is empty, it doesn't work. The empty area will be inhabited.
Improving demographic indicators should be part of a strategic European response to migration challenges. According to him, the number of illegal migrants on the Balkan route to the EU is not decreasing, so European countries need to take action.
The next MED9 summit will take place in Portugal in 2027.
