Angolan president says deep reform of UN Security Council urgently needed
Angolan President João Lourenço spoke in favor of urgently carrying out a deep reform of the UN Security Council, which would become permanent members.

Angolan President João Lourenço called for an urgent reform of the UN Security Council, with permanent members from Africa, Latin America and Asia. He said this, speaking at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, writes sb.by.

The urgent need for a profound reform of the UN Security Council, where Africa, Latin America and Asia are represented as permanent members with all their inherent powers, is becoming increasingly clear.
According to him, this need is dictated by the fact that after World War II, new countries with strong economies, advanced science and technology appeared. “This requires the formation of a new, more just and democratic governance of the world order,” he said.
Lawrence also called for the lifting of the embargo against Cuba. “Angola is concerned about the unfair and inhumane treatment of Cuba, which has been a victim of embargo for many decades,” he said. This continues to worsen the living conditions of Cubans. Cuba is not a terrorist state, nor does it possess or produce nuclear or chemical or biological weapons that could threaten the security of other states, including neighboring ones. On the contrary, Cuba made a significant contribution to the victory over the apartheid regime in racist South Africa, which was strongly condemned by all mankind. We call for an end to the embargo against Cuba.”.
Speaking in general about the situation in the world, the President of Angola stressed that the security situation is deteriorating from year to year and the threat of a global conflict is increasing. Modi says UN Security Council reform can no longer be delayed
