According to RIA Novosti, even before the recession of 2007-2009, the total fertility rate kept on average at 2.02 children per woman. By 2020, the indicator fell to 1.64, and by 2024 to 1.60, which was the minimum value at the time of forecasting.
At the same time, there is a noticeable age shift: in women aged 30-49, the birth rate is growing, while among American women aged 14-29 it continues to decline.
Another important aspect is the role of immigrant women in the demographic picture of the country: today they account for one in four newborns in the United States. However, the total fertility rate among immigrant women is projected to decline from 1.79 children per woman in 2026 to 1.66 by 2036.
According to the Agency, because of these trends, the growth of the total population of the United States will stop by 2056.
