Earlier, Anthropic announced its desire to find treatments for rare diseases. According to Reuters, the head of the biological sciences department of the startup, Eric Kaudererer-Abrams, confirmed that the organization has a “wet laboratory” – a room where experiments with liquids and biological materials are conducted.

- We believe that the basis for research in biology is still and for some time will remain real experiments, said E. Kaudererer-Abrams. I would describe our approach as typical of biotech companies. We combine the development of our own units with what we are working on with external partners.

A company spokesman later clarified that the lab was not specifically designed to create drugs, but declined to comment further.

According to sources, Anthropic is implementing physical automation and wants to advance the capabilities of its Claude AI model to control robotic installations for experiments with limited human intervention.

The move comes amid warnings from Anthropic researchers that neural networks could lead to the extinction of humanity. The startup also claimed to have found examples where its systems could be used to develop biological weapons.
