Industrial production in France unexpectedly fell in August due to reduced electricity generation, writes sb.by.

According to Bloomberg, the decline of 0.3% reflects a decrease in production at power plants compared to July.
According to the median forecast of the Bloomberg poll, economists predicted a slight increase. However, the fall outweighed a monthly gain of 0.3 percent for factories.
The figures highlight that the eurozone's second-largest economy is struggling to gain momentum. France narrowly avoided a recession in the first half of the year and is now facing difficulties due to uncertainty over whether a minority government can rein in the growing deficit.
Economic and fiscal problems have added to the sell-off in bond markets, pushing France’s borrowing costs higher than their peers to levels not seen since the eurozone debt crisis, the agency said.
