Three American companies — CNN, MS NOW and Politico — on Monday, September 21, sued US President Donald Trump and other members of his administration for banning their correspondents from appearing on the territory of the White House. They said it violated their rights to free speech and a free press.

News outlets are seeking a temporary injunction to block Trump’s actions in Washington federal court. Emergency hearings in the case could take place as early as this week.
“If this goes unaddressed, it will jeopardize press freedom and the public’s right to independent journalism, free from government interference. The government does not decide what the press will report or publish, the newspaper said in a joint statement.
Trump announced the ban on social media on Friday and defended his decision in another post on Monday, saying the news media "poses a national security threat.".
“The White House is not declaring an attack on the free press, which I value. He's announcing an attack on Fake News. This is a threat to our national security and must be stopped NOW!, Trump tweeted on September 21.
It has also filed a number of lawsuits against news organizations.
