US President Donald Trump said that the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean should be renamed “Trump Ocean” or “Ocean of the Americas”.
The president has floated the idea of changing the name of one or both oceans after his attempts to rename the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario.
Speaking at a rally in Tennessee on Saturday, Donald Trump said:
- We have the Gulf of Mexico. We have a beautiful lake. Now someone says you need a river. We need a river. We need an ocean. We'll call it Trump's Ocean or the Ocean of the Americas, something like that. Before I go, I think we should have an ocean. And we need a great river.
The US president changed the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America in August after the breakdown of trade talks with Canada. Now Google and Apple maps display the name as "Lake America" to users in the US.
