On Monday, October 12, Delhi authorities closed six subway stations and warned of traffic disruptions as opposition parties plan to hold a protest march.
Opposition parties and supporters of the cockroach youth movement took to the streets almost daily this month, demanding the resignation of the head of the country's Election Commission, Gyanesh Kumar.
“As a result of the revision of voter lists, which began last year, more than 130 million names were removed from them, including the names of the dead, displaced persons and people whose whereabouts could not be traced,” the report says.
Police detained thousands of protesters in Delhi over the weekend, including leaders of the Jant Cockroaches Party (CJP), as its supporters tried to stage a protest march and were stopped by thousands of security personnel who blocked downtown Delhi.
The Electoral Commission has denied giving preference to any party and said voters wrongly removed from the list could re-register, while the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) accused its rivals of trying to undermine democracy in the country by incorrectly questioning legitimate electoral processes.
On Monday, six subway stations were closed for "security reasons" and police imposed traffic and detours restrictions on more than 20 sites.
