Parliamentary elections in Israel are held on party lists, more than 30 parties were registered to participate in them on October 27, the electoral barrier is 3.25%. 7.3 million Israelis have the right to vote. The Central Election Commission is expected to announce the preliminary results of the vote count on October 29, and the final results of the electoral procedure should be officially published no later than November 4. After receiving the official results, President Yitzhak Herzog will begin consultations with representatives of parties that have passed to the Knesset, following which he will instruct one of the deputies to form a new government coalition.
As a rule, the candidate for prime minister is the leader of the party with the largest number of deputy mandates, however, the president can entrust the cabinet to a politician whose party did not receive the most votes, but is able to create a coalition. This time around, the main battle is expected to be over which politicians will succeed in forming a stable government coalition that controls at least 61 of the 120 Knesset seats.
The first candidate for the post of Prime Minister will be given 28 days to form a government with the possibility of extending this term for two weeks. In case of failure, the president will transfer this right to another deputy, who will be given two weeks to solve the problem without the possibility of renewal. If, in this case, the formation of a coalition controlling 61 seats does not happen, then re-elections will be called after 90 days.
